Blush Is Doing the Heavy Lifting Now

Skip the contour kit. A well-placed flush can lift, warm and wake up your whole face in under a minute.

If you only had one makeup product for the rest of your life, there's a strong case it should be blush. It warms a tired complexion, gives cheekbones dimension and makes skin look healthy in a way bronzer and highlighter both promise and rarely deliver alone.

Find your flush

The most natural shade mimics the colour your cheeks turn after a brisk walk. A rough guide:

  • Fair skin: soft pinks, peach and dusty rose.
  • Medium skin: apricot, coral and warm berry.
  • Deep skin: rich fuchsia, brick, plum and bright tangerine.

Placement is everything

Smile, find the apple of your cheek, then blend upwards and back toward the top of the ear. Placing colour slightly higher than you think lifts the face; placing it lower and closer to the nose can make features look heavier.

Blush higher, blend further, use less than you think.

Cream or powder?

Creams melt into skin and look the most like real flush — ideal for dry or mature skin and minimal makeup days. Powders last longer and suit oilier skin. For staying power on a big day, layer a cream with a whisper of matching powder on top.
